Reston is a village in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders and the traditional county of Berwickshire . It is located about six kilometers west of the coastal town of Eyemouth and 26 kilometers southeast of Dunbar on the right bank of Eye Water . The English- Scottish border runs around ten kilometers southeast.
history
At the beginning of the 17th century, Reston consisted of two separate farmsteads. To William Roy's map from the 1750s a contiguous settlement is already listed. Favored by its location on the most important traffic route between England and Scotland, Reston grew in the course of the 18th and 19th centuries. The village increasingly overtook the south-west of Duns as the regional center of the cattle trade. The cattle market closed in 2001.
In 1881 there were 321 residents in Reston. At the turn of the century, the 500 resident mark was broken. In the context of the census surveys in 1961 and 1971, 355 and 280 inhabitants were counted.

The village is located on the B6438, which crosses the A1, which runs to the left of Eye Water, directly north of the village . The North British Railway opened Reston Station along its main line in the mid-19th century . In the meantime this has been integrated into the East Coast Main Line and the station closed. The opening of the Berwickshire Railway via Duns to St Boswells , which established a cross connection to the Waverley Line, was important for Reston's development .
