Founded in 2011, the Viennese association Footprint - Care, Freedom & Integration for those affected by trafficking in women and violence ( spelling : FOOTPRINT ) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that campaigns for those affected by trafficking in women and / or violence .

founding

Hannah-Isabella Gasser came up with the idea of founding her own NGO while doing her thesis on the subject of forced prostitution of African migrant women in Austria and dealing with the subject of trafficking in women in various internships. In 2011 she finally developed a project idea together with Hannah Lux, which eventually led to the establishment of Footprint. The 2011 Social Impact Award and the Ideas Against Poverty Award created the financial basis for founding the association.

target

The approximately 20 volunteer employees (as of July 2015) at Footprint want to help women and girls in Austria who are affected by trafficking in women and violence to gain their rights and to bring a societal fringe issue into the public eye. Those affected are to be shown future perspectives, and there is also the opportunity for them to take advantage of social and legal advice, as well as further training courses. Footprint should represent a place of emotional retreat. Women and girls are accompanied on their way to a future that is as self-determined as possible.

Footprint is particularly concerned with the low threshold of childcare options: women can maintain their anonymity and come by at any time during opening hours without making an appointment.

Footprint does not speak out against prostitution per se, insofar as it is exercised voluntarily and without other people behind it.

Offers and courses

In addition to social and legal advice, those affected by trafficking in women and violence have the opportunity to take part in language, sports and self-defense courses in Vienna's 3rd district (near Wien Mitte train station). Attending the courses is free for those affected, while those who are not affected make a financial contribution to participate in the sports courses, which in turn benefits those affected. Thus, the women also have the opportunity to make new social contacts and get the feeling of being an equal member of Austrian society.

Social counseling

The social counseling is part of the low-threshold concept. The clients can therefore make use of them, but they are not obliged to do so. The consultations can therefore also take place anonymously. Topics of social counseling include: Financial basis / supply, job search, apartment search, training and language courses, processing emotionally stressful and / or traumatic experiences, problems with residence status.

German courses

The association offers clients free German courses for levels A1 to B1. This is to support the integration of women into society, which is often hindered by language barriers.

Exercise courses

Sports and exercise courses, which are offered with the support of the Austrian Ministry of Sports, represent a focus of the activities of Footprint. Many victims of trafficking in women and violence are traumatized by their difficult working and living conditions . Movement in a group can help to rebuild or strengthen trust in yourself and other people. Therefore, exercise courses are offered in the club's premises, where those affected can train free of charge and non-affected women can train together. This creates a space for people from different cultures to get to know each other and at the same time offers a low-threshold therapy option.

financing

The association is primarily financed through donations. These can also be provided in the form of a membership, the so-called Footprint Friends . Additional funds are raised through charity events, prize money, sponsorship and z. B. Exercise courses taken.
