Forat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Forat was a port city on the Persian Gulf mentioned several times by ancient authors and in ancient inscriptions .

The city flourished especially in the Empire of Charakene , which was a vassal state of the Parthian Empire . Forat was an important trading city that linked Babylonia and Palmyra to India . The city appears to have been founded after the port of Charax Spasinu silted up. In Sassanid times the place was probably called Vahman Ardaschir . Forat is identified in research with Maglub , which is a 1.8 x 1.3 km mound of ruins. Excavations have not yet taken place. Surface finds date mainly to the Sassanid and early Islamic times.
