Coordinates: 33 ° 22 ′ S , 148 ° 0 ′ E Forbes Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 4,710.1 km² and has about 9,600 inhabitants.
Forbes is located in the Central West region about 370 km west of the metropolis of Sydney and 280 km northwest of the Australian capital Canberra . The area comprises 52 hamlets and hamlets, including Bandon, Bedgerebong, Bundabarrah, Corradgery, Daroobalgie, Forbes, Mulyandry, Ooma North, Paytens Bridge, Red Bend, Warroo and parts of Cookamidgera, Eugowra and Wirrinya. The Shire Council is headquartered in Forbes, which is home to around 7,035 residents.

The Forbes Shire Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Forbes is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
