history

In 1919 Ernst Siegling founded a drive belt factory in Hanover under his name . Shortly thereafter, he began producing flat leather belts. In the early 1920s, chrome leather upright belts, which consisted of upright and riveted leather belts, were produced. At the beginning of the 1940s a patent was applied for a multi-layer flat belt made of nylon and chrome leather under the Extremultus brand . With an efficiency of 98% and more, the energy efficiency could be significantly increased compared to conventional belt and chain drives.

In the years of the German economic miracle after World War II , automation and rationalization became key issues. During this time, Hellmut Siegling, the son of the company founder, developed a lightweight conveyor belt for the internal flow of materials at the suggestion of the biscuit manufacturer Bahlsen . This new tape, since then marketed under the brand name Transilon, was comparatively thin and light - but at the same time, it had little stretch, was dimensionally stable, very quiet to run and on top of that it was robust and durable. The light conveyor belt required much smaller system technology and thus only a fraction of the space. Automation in areas such as parcel distribution centers or large bakeries became possible.

In 1956 the company began to set up subsidiaries and holding companies abroad. Early startups took place in the USA, Switzerland, Mexico, Japan, Italy, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, Austria and Spain. Canada, China, Malaysia, New Zealand, India, Korea, Belgium, UK, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Ireland, Russia, Turkey, Singapore, Indonesia, Brazil and Chile were added later.

In 1971 the world's first production line for three-meter-wide conveyor belt material was purchased. Since 1999, conveyor and processing belts up to a width of 4.5 meters have been manufactured using the calendering process.

Hundreds of different belt types with specific properties for different industries and applications have been developed over time. New product groups such as plastic modular belts and plastic timing belts gradually made the company a full-range supplier in the field of belts. In 1994 the shares were taken over by the Swiss group Forbo International SA . Forbo Siegling GmbH has been a 100% subsidiary of Forbo Beteiligungen GmbH in Lörrach since January 1st, 1994 .

In 2007 the brand name Siegling Belting became the brand name Forbo Movement Systems , the operating company is still called Forbo Siegling GmbH .
