The Forge Islands ( English for forging islands ) are a group of small islands off the west coast of the Antarctic Graham country . They are located northeast of the group The Barchans and 800 m northwest of Grotto Island in the group of Argentine islands of the Wilhelm Archipelago .
Participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill mapped them and named them Horseshoe Islands . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee changed the name in 1959 to avoid confusion with the Horseshoe Islands off Square Bay . The renaming was based on the name of the Anvil Rock (English for anvil rock ).
