Research Center Ludwigsburg

The Research Center Ludwigsburg of the University of Stuttgart is dedicated since its inception on April 1, 2001, the investigation of Nazi crimes history, its immediate antecedents and diverse international Ahndungsversuche. She is assigned to the Chair of Modern History at the University of Stuttgart. The director of the research center is Wolfram Pyta , its scientific director was Klaus-Michael Mallmann until his retirement in 2013 , and his successor Martin Cüppers since then .

The main research areas include the crimes of the SS Einsatzgruppen and the Gestapo in the areas occupied by Germany, especially in Eastern Europe, as well as the crimes in the extermination camps for Jews. Further studies by the research center examine the Nazi occupation policy in various countries and regions in Europe or analyze the relations between National Socialism and the Arab world.

Since its inception, the research center has published an extensive series of monographs and anthologies on Nazi research that was published by the Wissenschaftliche Buchgesellschaft Darmstadt .

As part of its scientific work, the Ludwigsburg Research Center cooperates with the Federal Archives, the Ludwigsburg branch and the central office of the state justice administrations for the investigation of Nazi crimes .
