The Dendrometer by Kramer is a measuring instrument for biometric sensing of trees

The Forest Biometrics (including biometrics , gr. Bio = life and Metron = measure ) is a branch of Forest Sciences . She deals with measurements of living things in forests , usually trees , and the associated evaluation methods . It is one of the basics of wood and forest measuring theory . Areas of application are the calculation of wood stocks in forests and the growth dynamics of individual trees, and in the course of this, forecasts of future wood stocks. In addition, with the mathematical-statistical methods of biometry, other forestry- relevant parameters of a tree, such as the growth form, can be recorded, which affect the price of the wood .

Another area of application of forest biometrics is the assessment of the health of trees and forests . This is regularly determined, among other things, in the forest status report of the Federal Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection for the federal territory.

In the German-speaking area, forest biometrics was founded by Michail Prodan .
