Progressive Party (Württemberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Progressive Party was a liberal party in the Kingdom of Württemberg .

history

The Progress Party was founded in 1856 as an umbrella organization and faction group of the Liberal Democrats and the Constitutional People's Party. In 1864 different views on the German question split the party.

Positions

The common goal of the Progressive Party was the reform of the Württemberg constitution. The Liberal Democrats supported the constitutional monarchy and relied on cooperation with King Wilhelm I. On the German question, they sought unity under Prussian leadership. The People's Party, on the other hand, demanded a democratic republic with full popular sovereignty and a southern German solution without Prussia.

successor

The successors of the Progress Party are the right-wing liberal German party and the left-wing liberal Democratic People's Party, which emerged after the split .
