Foruli

Foruli was an ancient village ( vicus ) of the Sabines in Italy . It was on the site of today's Civitatomassa (municipality of Scoppito ).

location

Foruli lay at the sources of Aternus , four miles south of Amiternum , and belonged to its territory ( ager Amiterninus ). In terms of traffic, it was connected to Via Caecilia , a side street off Via Salaria . Emperor Claudius had the Via Claudia Nova built in AD 47 , connecting the place to the Via Valeria .

Epigraph

In addition to numerous Latin inscriptions, a cippus with dedicatory inscriptions in another Italian language has come down to us in Foruli . It could be the only surviving inscription in the Sabine language . However, this assignment is very controversial.
