Fosen (tribe)
The Fosen (also Foser , Latin Fosi ) were a small Germanic tribe in western Central Europe, mentioned only by Tacitus .
At the turn of the ages they were probably dependent on the neighboring Cheruscans . In the course of the 1st century they continued to decline in importance and were eventually assimilated by the expanding Angrivarians . The decline of the Cherusci also dragged the Fosen with it.
Because of the phonetic similarity, their settlement area was presumed to be at the foot between Salzgitter and Celle . Since this is etymologically improbable, a closer localization of the fosen is not possible.
