Prohibition of photography
A photography ban as a prohibition to photograph objects or people can exist in different contexts:
- as an expression of personal rights ( right to one's own image )
- for the protection of the very personal sphere of life ( § 201a StGB)
- in exercising domiciliary rights , for example in museums and art exhibitions , at trade fairs or in companies to prevent plagiarism and industrial espionage or in public pools
- to safeguard national security interests ( Section 109g StGB)
- in a religious environment, see ban on images ,
- as an exception to the principle of the public at court hearings ( § 169 sentence 2 GVG )
In the past, it was forbidden in many countries to take photos of bridges, train stations, airports and the like, and private aerial photography was forbidden. Most of these bans have ceased to exist since the end of the Cold War. In the GDR, taking photos of border installations was forbidden as in the other states of the Eastern Bloc. In Russia, the comprehensive photo ban on industrial facilities, bridges, train stations, military and border installations still exists.
