Fouad Laroui
Fouad Laroui ( Arabic فؤاد العروي, DMG Fuʾād al-ʿArwī ; * August 12, 1958 in Oujda , Morocco ) is a Moroccan writer, literary critic and university lecturer. He writes his texts and books in French and Dutch .
biography
Laroui attended the Lycée Lyautey de Casablanca in his home country of Morocco before earning an engineering degree from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris and later a doctorate in economics . He initially ran a mine in Khouribga before moving to England and spending several years in Cambridge and York . Today he lives in Amsterdam , where he teaches at the Vrije Universiteit as a lecturer (first for environmental sciences, later for French literature and philosophy) and as a literary critic a. a. works for the weekly newspaper Jeune Afrique , the magazine Économia and the Moroccan radio station Médi 1. To date, Fouad Larouis has published nine novels as well as numerous essays and short stories. Three of the novels have been translated into German. His novels and stories deal with the identity of the individual in a globalized world and the dialogue between cultures. In addition, he deals with various conflict situations in his works. He says of himself: “I write to denounce situations that shock me. To show stupidity in all its forms. Malice, cruelty, fanaticism and stupidity disgust me. "
