Fourah Bay College

The Fourah Bay College (FBC) is the oldest university in sub-Saharan Africa and the first to be established in western fashion. It is located in Freetown , the capital of Sierra Leone . FBC was founded on February 18, 1827 as an Anglican School of Mission and is now part of the University of Sierra Leone .

The name comes from the upstream Fourah Bay . The original Fourah Bay College building is a Sierra Leone National Monument .
