List of geese breeds

The Franconian country goose , also called Franconian goose , is a medium-sized breed of goose from Franconia .

features

The Franconian country goose is characterized by good meat quality and abundance of down, it is also very frugal and, if it has enough pasture area, needs little additional feed. If you keep Franconian country geese at your house, you don't need a watch dog, because the Franconian country goose is more vigilant than some guard dogs . The Franconian goose is one of the more flighty breeds, which means that it sometimes flies over a garden fence. The animals of this breed are premature, so that one can breed faster than with other breeds. The females lay a clutch of 10-15 eggs 2-3 times a year and hatch them very reliably.

The Franconian country goose weighs around 5–7 kg.

Only the blue color is recognized by the Association of German Racial Poultry Breeders (BDRG). But there are also gray, piebald and mold-colored animals.

history

The Franconian country goose has long been kept on Franconian farms in the floodplains and on river islands of the Main and was also widespread on the Saale as Martin's and Christmas goose . An offspring of these free-range geese was presented for viewing at the German Young Poultry Show in Hanover in 2002 . The goose breed has been recognized since 2004. A maintenance breeding ring has existed since 2012 .
