Frégate , sometimes also called Frigate , is an island in the Indian Ocean and one of the granitic "Inner Islands" of the Seychelles . The island is located 55 km east of Mahé , the main island of the Seychelles.
The French explorer Lazare Picault gave the island its name after the frigate birds that live there . The tropical island has an area of 2.19 km². The highest point on the island, Mount Signal , is 125 m high. There are 16 villas on the island, which are largely used for tourism. The island is owned by the German industrialist Otto Happel .

Flora and fauna
The island is overgrown with trees of the species Calophyllum inophyllum , Kashu ( cashew ) and Indian almond trees. Among other things, Aldabra giant tortoises and the extremely endangered, extremely rare Seychelles dajal live on Frégate . The construction work for the establishment of the hotel complex was fully monitored by nature conservationists to ensure that the population of Seychelles eel is not damaged.
