Fra Diamante
Fra Diamante (actually Diamante di Feo , * around 1430 in Terranuova , † around 1498) was an Italian Renaissance painter .
Life
Fra Diamante was born around 1430 in Terranuova in the Val d'Arno. He came to the Carmelite monastery in Prato in early childhood . He learned the art of painting from Filippo Lippi . Diamante worked for Lippi for the first time in 1447 (altarpiece Coronation of the Virgin Mary , now in the Uffizi ), from 1452 until Lippi's death in 1469 it was a constant collaboration. After Filippo Lippi's death, Fra Diamante completed works by Lippi, including the frescoes in the apse of Spoleto Cathedral . He also took care of his ten-year-old son Filippino Lippi , who learned the art from him and would later become a famous painter.
After Fra Diamante had finished the work on the frescoes of Spoleto, he returned to Prato. In 1472 he lived in Florence , where he was enrolled in the Compagnia di San Luca , an artists' guild. In 1481 and 1482 he painted at the Sistine Chapel . The last record about Fra Diamante comes from a letter from 1498.
