The Fraganter Schutzhaus is an Alpine Club hut in the Goldberg Group , which belongs to the Klagenfurt section of the Austrian Alpine Club . From 2004 to 2005 the hut was completely renovated and modernized. The Gastinger family has leased and run the shelter since 2007.
location
The Fraganter Schutzhaus lies at 1810 m above sea level. A. in the Großfragant , a side valley of the Fragant . The Goldberg Group is a popular ski touring area in winter and the mountains offer many opportunities for mountain and family hiking in summer. In addition, the area around the refuge is known for its botanical diversity.
history
The Fraganter Schutzhaus emerged from a copper mining settlement in Großfragant, which was closed by the Federal Mining Administration in the mid-1920s for economic reasons. In 1927 the buildings and land were leased from the Klagenfurt Section, the administration building was converted into a shelter and opened on July 31, 1927. Two years later, the section bought the hut complex and a total of three hectares of land. In addition to the refuge, the existing buildings were converted into a youth hostel and two single-family houses, which were rented to members of the section. The youth hostel soon became too small, and so a new youth hostel was built in 1931/32 and named in honor of the initiator, Dr.-Hans-Widder-Jugendherberge .
After the Second World War, the hut was in poor condition and was further neglected in favor of other huts in the section, in 1955 even a sale of the property was considered. The old timber structure from 1917 could no longer be renovated.
The Section planned the new construction of the hut, in 1968 work began on the “Stille Klause” alpine pasture, and on June 6, 1970 the new Fraganter Refuge was opened. The hut was completely renovated in 2004/05.
