Fragments of Unbecoming is a German melodic death metal band from Hessen that was founded in 2000 .

history

The band was founded in the summer of 2000 by the two guitarists Sascha Ehrich and Stefan Weimar as a side project to their main bands at the time, Mortified and Veneral Disease. Ingo Maier, who was also active with Veneral Disease at the time, joined the band as a drummer, while Stefan Weimar also took over the vocals in the early days of the band. The members of Fragments of Unbecoming rehearsed over a period of several months with various possible bassists and finally decided on Wolfram Schellenberg. In the spring of 2001 the musicians decided not to see the band as a side project any longer and Sascha Ehrich subsequently left his previous band Mortified. In May 2002 the band released their EP Bloodred Tales - Chapter I - The Crimson Season on their own and made it onto CD supplements in the music magazines Rock Hard and Heavy, or what?!.

A year later the band signed a record deal with Metal Blade Records and released their debut album Skywards - Chapter II - A Sylphe's Ascension . As a result, the band decided to look for a singer to relieve Stefan Weimar with live performances and to be able to work with two-part singing on upcoming albums. Sam Anetzberger then rehearsed with the band and played a few concerts, but then gave his other band Dead Eyed Sleeper higher priority. As a result, an American singer rehearsed with Fragments of Unbecoming, but could not stay in Germany permanently and left the band after a short time. For the recordings of the following album Sterling Black Icon - Chapter III - Black But Shining , which was to be released again by Metal Blade Records, Sam Anetzberger was persuaded to return in autumn 2005. After recording The Everhaunting Past - Chapter IV - A Splendid Retrospection , Wolfram Schellenberg left the band due to lack of time and was replaced by Christopher Körtgen. The already fully mastered album was released after signing the contract with Cyclone Empire .

style

The band sees their music as based on Swedish death metal of the 1990s . In reviews, comparisons were made with At the Gates , A Canorous Quintet and the early In Flames . Among other things, the “high level of composition” of the pieces and the “filigree melody arcs” were praised.
