Frailea knippeliana is a species of plant in the genus Frailea from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Frailea knippeliana grows individually with short cylindrical, bright green bodies. The bodies reach heights of growth of up to 4 centimeters with a diameter of 2 centimeters. The 15 ribs are divided into flat cusps. The two central spines are dark amber and 3 to 4 millimeters long. They are hardly distinguishable from the radial spines. The 14 amber-colored radial spines lie on the surface of the body.

The yellow flowers have a reddish central stripe and are up to 2.5 centimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Frailea knippeliana is common in Paraguay . The first description as Echinocactus knippelianus was published in 1902 by Leopold Quehl (1849-1922). Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Frailea in 1922 .
