The Group of the European Right ( Engl. Group of the European Right , Fri Groupe des droites européennes ), short- ER or GDE was one from 1984 to 1989, existing far-right group in the European Parliament . It was the predecessor of the Technical Group of the European Right (DR), which existed from 1989 to 1994 . The parliamentary group had a total of 17 members. The chairman was the French politician Jean-Marie Le Pen . Originally, the Italian MP Giorgio Almirante was planned for this.

history

The parliamentary group came into being after the 1984 European elections . Five years after the first European elections , the right-wing extremists succeeded in forming their own parliamentary group in the European Parliament for the first time in the second legislative period. The group of the European right initially consisted of the ten members of the French Front National (FN), the five members of the Italian Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI) and the member of the Greek Ethniki Politiki Enosis (EPEN). In 1985, one year after it was founded, the member of the Northern Irish Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), who left the conservative European Democrats in protest against the Anglo-Irish Agreement , joined the far-right group.

After the European elections in 1989 , the FN and the German Republicans founded the Technical Group of the European Right , while the UUP switched to the EPP Group, the MSI remained non-attached and the EPEN missed its return to parliament.
