Frama (abbreviation of Fra nkier ma machine) is an international company from Lauperswil in Switzerland . At the headquarters in Lauperswil, the products are developed, produced, assembled and sold in over 50 countries worldwide. Frama is very export-oriented.

According to the company, 100 employees work at the headquarters. Together with the 10 subsidiaries, the number of employees is 300. Each subsidiary also offers its own products and services. In the other 40 countries, the products are sold through exclusive agencies. The strategic key markets are in Germany, England, France, the Netherlands and in the home market Switzerland.

The Frama Group underwent a realignment in 2016. The claim “mail. message. managed. ”is, according to the company, a summary of the fields of activity and core competencies. In 1946, Jost AG began producing the first franking machine in Lauperswil. The machine was operated manually with a crank. The machines wore even then the words "FRAMA" which is an abbreviation of Fra nkier ma 's machine. Other models followed until the 1960s, such as B. 1951 the franking machine "Frama Model 12". In the late 1960s, Werner Haug was a supporter at Jost AG. When Jost AG ran into financial difficulties in 1969 and Rudolf Jost died, Werner Haug took over the company. Since the product and the company should have the same name for marketing reasons, Frama AG was founded in 1970 as the successor to Jost AG.

In the year Frama AG was founded, the "Frama Model 70" franking machine was introduced. It is a further development of the Jost AG models and was in use from 1970 to 1980.

In 1976, Frama developed the electronic stamp machines and began delivering them to the Swiss Post . The franking machine model “F100” became marketable in 1980 and, with over 150,000 units produced, has been Frama’s most successful model to this day.

Another technical innovation was the introduction of the world's first franking machine with automatic date change.

Over the years, several modifications and additions were made to the building. For example, in 1987, when the factory area and production capacity were doubled. In 1993, the "EPS" model was the world's first franking machine with an integrated tariff calculation. In 1996, the “Sensonic” model was the world's first franking machine with a touchscreen . The successor model "Sensonic 2000" from 1998 had the world's fastest thermal transfer printing . This digital printing finally replaced the metal clichés . Two years later, Frama also produced the fastest inkjet printing franking machine, the “Mailmax” .

In 2002 and 2003, the new logistics and IT centers in Lauperswil went into operation. The introduction of the "Matrix" franking machine models began in 2005. In the same year, Frama was the first Swiss company to receive the ISO 27001 certificate based on IT-Grundschutz. In 2008 there was also the FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification. This certifies that the PSD (Postal Security Device) built into the franking machines and the business processes used have been tested and found to be secure in accordance with the relevant international standards for crypto modules .

In 2009 the electronic letter opener "Access B400" was launched. The introduction of the current "Matrix F series" generation of franking machines began in 2012. With the "Matrix F series", Frama was the first manufacturer to introduce the color touchscreen as a user interface. In 2014, Frama was the first manufacturer to receive approval for the new Mailmark technology from Royal Mail in the United Kingdom (UK).

As part of the realignment, Frama presented its first digital solution in 2016: e-communications: RMail. RMail is a platform for encrypted and traceable emails. Also in 2016, "Frama France SAS" was founded in France. It is now Frama's tenth subsidiary.
