FrameNet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FrameNet is a project based at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) in Berkeley . An electronic online dictionary of the English language will be created, which is based on semantic frames . A semantic frame can be thought of as a concept with a script . This describes an object, a status or an event. The lexical database of the project includes around 10,000 lexical units ( lexical units ) ( tuple of a word and a meaning; polysemic words by different lexical units shown), 800 semantic frames and over 120,000 example sentences.

FrameNet was primarily designed by Charles J. "Chuck" Fillmore .

concept

Frames

Examples of frame names are Being_bornand Locative_relation. In addition to the name, a frame contains a text description of the concept it represents.

Frame elements

Each frame has a number of core and edge frame elements , which can be thought of as semantic roles. The only core frame element of the frame Being_bornis Childnamed. The peripheral frame elements , in the case Time, Place, Relativesetc.

Lexical units

In addition to the frame , each lexical unit is linked to a number of frame elements via annotations .

realization

FrameNet provides superficial data on the syntactic role of frame elements . In the above case, the frame elements are Child and about AD 460 noun phrases .

Valences

FrameNet reveals the statistics of the valences of the frames , which are the number and position of the frame elements within the example sentences. The sentence She was BORN about AD 460falls into the valence pattern NP Ext, INI --, NP Dep, which occurs twice in the example sentences .

Example sentences

Frames are associated with example sentences and frame elements are marked within the sentences. The sentence She was BORN about AD 460is associated with the frame Being_bornwhile is marked Sheas a frame element Child and about AD 460as Time.
