The Stadio Nuovo Romagnoli is a football stadium in the Italian city of Campobasso in the same province of the region of Molise . The stadium is currently used by the SSD Città di Campobasso association, which was founded in 2013 . The sports facility is also known as Selvapiana and has a total of 25,000 seats. There are aspirations; to name the stadium after Michele Scorrano. He was the captain of Campobasso Calcio in the 1970s and 80s and died of a heart attack in February 2009 at the age of 57.

history

The stadium was designed by Costantino Rozzi ; the former president of Ascoli Calcio was also u. a. responsible for the Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca in Ascoli Piceno , the Stadio Via del Mare in Lecce and the Stadio Partenio-Adriano Lombardi in Avellino . After construction began in 1983, the new football stadium was inaugurated two years later. The then club Campobasso Calcio played the first game against the then reigning champions Juventus Turin . It was the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia 1984/85 and in the first leg the hosts beat Juve with 1-0 goals. The second leg ended with a 1: 4 victory for Turin.

The Campobasso stadium is almost identical to the Stadio Ciro Vigorito in Benevento ; which also comes from Costantino Rozzi. A rectangular basic shape with all-round two-story grandstands; that come close to the natural grass field . Only part of the main stand is protected by a roof. The SSC Napoli had to leave its home stadium San Paolo from September 2001 to January 2002 because the stadium was damaged in a storm . During this time the SSC team moved to the Campobasso stadium.

The Italian men's national football team has once played an international match in the Campobasso stadium.
