François Borne

François Borne (* 1840 in Montpellier , † 1920 in Toulouse ) was a French flautist and composer.

Borne was a flutist at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and professor of flute at the Toulouse Conservatory. Together with the flute maker Djalma Julliot, he perfected the key mechanism of the Böhm flute ( E mechanism ).

He composed numerous works for the flute, including the Fantaisie brillante sur L'Africaine de Meyerbeer, pour flûte avec accompagnement de piano ou d'Orchestre (1885). His most famous composition is the Fantaisie brillante pour flûte et piano based on motifs from Bizet's opera Carmen .
