François Chauvon (* before 1700 ; † 1740 ) was a French composer of the Baroque.

Life

François Chauvon was a student of François Couperin , to whom he dedicated his sonata collection "Tibiades" in 1717. As a musician at court, Chauvon held the position of "Ordinaire du roi" and was "Huissier de la chambre de son Altesse Royale Monseigneur le Régent" (bailiff). In his sonatas he realized the rapprochement between the French and the Italian styles, the so-called mixed taste or “goûts réunis”. In 1736 the pastoral Les agréments champêtres was created as a stage work , which was performed in 1736 in the castle of Saint-Cloud in the presence of the king.
