François Guiguet (born January 8, 1860 in Corbelin , Département Isère , † September 3, 1937 ibid) was a French painter.

Life

Guiguet was the fifth (of 12) child of the carpenter Joseph Guiguet and his wife Marie Garnier. His family wanted him to learn his father's profession, but the family doctor, Dr. Gauthier, recognized Guiguet's artistic potential early on. He received his first artistic lessons in the studio of the painter Auguste Ravier .

This, a friend of Camille Corot , soon brought Guiguet together with artists such as Charles-François Daubigny , Narcisso Virgilio Díaz de la Peña , Jules Dupré and Théodore Rousseau ( School of Barbizon ).

In 1883 Guiguet went to Paris and began to work in Alexandre Cabanel's studio . With his help he was able to successfully take part in the major exhibition of the Salon de Paris in 1885 with his painting “La retour du jeune Tobie” .

At the age of 77, Guiguet died on September 3, 1937 in Corbelin, where he found his final resting place. His hometown honors his memory with the Musée François Guiguet .
