François Ruffin

François Ruffin (born October 18, 1975 in Calais ) is a French journalist , essayist , director and politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 2017 .

In 1999, François Ruffin founded the left-wing satirical magazine Fakir , of which he has been editor-in-chief ever since. He also writes for the monthly newspaper Le Monde diplomatique and was involved as an editor for the globalization-critical radio show Là-bas si j'y suis on France Inter . For his first film, Merci Patron! In 2017, he received the French César film award for best documentary film about a family who lost their job due to the relocation of production . According to some media, the film played a role in the emergence of the social movement Nuit debout .

Like Frédéric Lordon, he was also considered one of the intellectual heads of Nuit debout . In the 2017 parliamentary elections , Ruffin ran in the Somme department under the slogan "Picardie Debout". His candidacy received broad support from left-wing parties and movements: La France insoumise , Le Parti communiste , Europe Écologie Les Verts and the left-wing alternative movement Ensemble! . On June 18, 2017, Ruffin was elected to the National Assembly in the second round with 55.97% of the vote.
