François d'O

François d'O, Marquis de Maillebois († October 24, 1594 ) was one of the mignons of the French King Henry III. He was the older brother of Jeans II. D'O and came from Castle O , which today belongs to the municipality of Mortrée in Normandy .

He took part in the (first) siege of La Rochelle in 1573 , during which he was wounded in February, as well as in the campaigns of 1575.

François d'O was castellan (châtelain) of Fresnes (today Ecquevilly in the Yvelines department ), but was primarily active as a financier. King Henry III called him son grand économiste . He was Sécrétaire d'État ( State Secretary ), Maître de la garde-robe du roi , and followed Pomponne de Bellièvre as Minister of Finance from 1578 to 1594 . In 1578 Heinrich III took him. as a knight in the Order of Michael and in 1586 made him Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit .

In 1581 he married Catherine de Villequier , only daughter of René de Villequier , the governor of Normandy .
