François de Calvo

François de Calvo (* 1625 ; † May 29, 1690 in Deinze ) was a French officer and aristocrat .

Life

François de Calvo came from a noble Catalan family. He decided to join the French army when the reaper revolt was raging in Catalonia. After serving in the infantry , he went to the cavalry and in 1647 was Colonel of the Régiment d'Aguilar cavalerie .

In 1674 he was promoted to Brigadier des armées du roi . In 1676, after his fearless defense of Maastricht, the king appointed him lieutenant-general . He was made Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit shortly before his death in 1688 .
