Francesc Santcliment
Francesc Santcliment (* 15th century; † 15th century or 16th century) was a Catalan author of arithmetic books in the 15th century.
Almost nothing is known about his life. Two works by him are known. The Suma de la Art d'Arismètica , published by Pere Posa in Barcelona in 1482 . A copy of this arithmetic book is preserved in the Biblioteca de Catalunya . In addition, El Compilatió de Arismética sobre la Arte Mercantivol , an arithmetic book for merchants, which was published in Spanish (Castilian) in Saragossa in 1486 by Pau Hurus (Paulus de Konstanz). A copy is preserved in the library of the University of Cagliari .
The book from 1482 is the first printed arithmetic book on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the earliest arithmetic books ever. Possibly it is also the second oldest printed arithmetic book after the Treviso arithmetic from 1478. In Germany there is the Bamberg arithmetic book by Ulrich Wagner (1483) and the older Bamberg block book from this time .
His arithmetic book also contains useful information about customs duties, coins and prices for merchants.
