Francesco Maria Richini
Francesco Maria Richini (born February 9, 1584 in Milan ; † April 24, 1658 ibid) was an Italian builder , architect and sculptor .
Life
Richini was sent to Rome by Cardinal Federico Borromeo to perfect his education. On his return to Milan (1603) he was immediately employed to work on the Milan Cathedral . In 1607 he began building the church of San Giuseppe. It was completed in 1630 and is one of the first buildings in the Baroque style . Richini oversaw the construction of a few other churches and was permanently employed in the Spanish administration of Milan. Most of its churches are no longer preserved. Among his other buildings, the Palazzo di Brera , begun in 1615, and the Ospedale Maggiore (literally: Great Hospital) stand out, both in Milan and notable for their elegant courtyards with colonnades.
