Manuscript from Francesco Scarlatti's Miserere mei Deus

Francesco Scarlatti said he came to Naples around the age of seven, where he received his musical training at one of the Conservatorios . When in 1684 his older brother Alessandro Scarlatti became the first conductor of the royal court orchestra in Naples, he found him a position as a violinist there. In 1691 he was in Palermo, where he was mentioned in 1694 as a member of the Unione dei musici . In 1699 his oratorio Agnus ooccisus from origine mundi in Abele was performed in Rome at the Arciconfraternita del SS. Crocifisso . The dialogue La profetessa guerriera was performed in Palermo in 1703 . Further oratorios were performed in Rome in 1710 and in Naples in 1711. In 1715, Francesco Scarlatti, with the intercession of Johann Joseph Fux , applied unsuccessfully for the position of vice conductor of the Viennese court orchestra , which was awarded to Antonio Caldara .

At the beginning of 1719 he was paid again as a member of the court orchestra in Naples. In May of the same year he gave a concert with his own compositions in the then important event building Hickford's Room in London , further concerts followed in 1720 and 1724. He was in contact with the art-loving James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos , who urged him to do his Bring Alessandro to his court orchestra. From 1733 Scarlatti was in Dublin, possibly through the mediation of Matthew Dubourg or Thomas Roseingrave . In Dublin, newspapers mention him several times as a Master of Musick . Scarlatti must have died in Dublin around January 1741 after a long illness, as a benefit concert was given for him on February 13, 1741.

Francesco Scarlatti composed masses and other liturgical works, several oratorios, cantatas, a stage work and a sinfonia, works that have in part been lost.
