Francesco Talenti

Francesco Talenti (* around 1300; † 1369 in Florence ) was a sculptor and architect of the Italian late Gothic .

Live and act

Little is known about his life. 1325 he was involved in the construction of the cathedral of Orvieto involved. In 1351 he succeeded Andrea Pisano as the chief architect of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore , which had been under construction since 1296. He expanded the dimensions of the building by redesigning the large apses and increasing the length of the nave . With these measures he made the Florentine Cathedral one of the largest church buildings to this day. He also completed the bell tower designed by Giotto in 1359 .
