Francinaina Cirer Carbonell , religious name Francinaina of Our Lady of Sorrows (born June 1, 1781 in Sencelles , Mallorca , † February 27, 1855 in Sencelles) was a Mallorcan nun and founder of a convent of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent von Paul in her hometown Sencelles on Mallorca. She is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church . Her feast day is February 27th.

Life

Francinaina Cirer Carbonell was born on June 1, 1781 in Sencelles, Mallorca, into a well-off rural family.

At the age of 70, Francinaina Cirer Carbonell and two companions founded the convent on December 7, 1851, of which she became head. She made her house and goods available to the company, placed them under the protection of the Mother of Sorrows and took the religious name Francinaina from Mary , the Mother of Sorrows . The Sisters of Mercy should care for the sick in their homes, educate girls, and teach the catechism, both in the convent itself and in the village.

On February 27, 1855, Mother Francinaina died of complications from a stroke.

Adoration

On December 22nd, 1903, the beatification process was opened at the diocesan level in the diocese of Mallorca , the documents of which were forwarded to Rome on September 2nd, 1926. After examining the scriptures in 1934, the beatification process was continued on December 4, 1942. On March 21, 1985 Pope John Paul II signed the Decree on the Heroic Degree of Virtue and elevated Sr. Francinaina to the Venerable Servant of God . On November 28, 1988, a miracle performed at her intercession was recognized. Then she was beatified on October 1st, 1989 by Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Basilica. In 2004 the canonization process was opened.
