Francis Robert Japp

Francis Robert Japp (born February 8, 1848 in Dundee , † August 1, 1925 in Richmond upon Thames ) was a British chemist .

life and work

Francis Japp studied natural sciences at St. Andrews University and did his doctorate in 1875 at the University of Heidelberg under Robert Bunsen , then he worked with August Kekulé . In 1877 he returned to Great Britain and taught chemistry at the Normal School of Science . From 1890 to 1914 he was a professor at the University of Aberdeen . He was one of the discoverers of the Japp-Klingemann reaction named after him . In 1885 he was elected to the Royal Society .
