Francisco Gómez de Altamirano y de Elizondo (born August 5, 1796 in Cartago , † May 1838 in Guatemala ) was from November 15, 1835 to February 1, 1836 Jefe Supremo of the Province of El Salvador in the Central American Confederation .

Life

His parents were Bartola de Elizondo and José Luis Goméz de Altamirano. He was brought to El Salvador as a child, where he grew up with a Rodríguez family in Metapán.

In Guatemala City, he studied at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala Law . He married Catalina Rodríguez, in Metapán, where he ran a household and where his now widowed and retired father moved.

In November 1811, at the time of the first Proceres riots , he was a member of the Cabildo de Españoles of San Salvador. His secret sympathies were always with the Proceres . He was a member of the Partido Liberal .

He later moved to San Salvador where he was Regidor des Cabildo de Españoles. He edited pamphlets called Instrucciones , which promoted liberal ideas. With the proclamation of independence in 1821, he helped the patriotic cause. He was an opponent of the annexation by the Mexican Empire from 1822 to 1823. In the war against the supporters of the annexation, he was promoted to captain.

In 1826 he was elected member of parliament when El Salvador and Honduras wanted to separate from the Central American Confederation. He was in the provincial army of El Salvador.

Later he was one of the shop stewards of the liberal Morazán under the civil service, whose orders he followed.

Together with Timoteo Menéndez , he presented in Izalco on October 10, 1827, Manuel José Arce y Fagoaga to the Jefe Supremo of the Central American Confederation on the terms of a peace with the province of El Salvador.

Morázan put him as Jefe Supremo of the Province of El Salvador, which he replaced Colonel Nicolás Espinoza .

Colonel Francisco Gómez was murdered in Guatemala.
