Francisco Gavidia

Francisco Antonio Gavidia Guandique (born December 29, 1863 in San Miguel , El Salvador , † September 22, 1955 in San Salvador , El Salvaldor) was a Salvadoran writer who was widely known as the national poet of El Salvador and the most important figure in El Salvador's intellectual life in the 19th century . and 20th century applies. He worked primarily as a poet, playwright, essayist , literary critic, historian, translator, correspondent and editor.

Live and act

Throughout his life he had a deep friendship with Ruben Dario . He mainly translated French poetry into Spanish and worked as a correspondent for various Central American newspapers in North and South America as well as in Europe.

He founded important cultural institutes in El Salvador, such as the Academy of Sciences (1888), a newspaper (1888) and a party (1895). He was also the founder of the Academy of History of El Salvador (1925) and the Academy of Language (1952).

A complete edition of his work was published between 1974 and 1976.

In El Salvador, the university in the capital, the national library and a theater in San Miguel are named after him.

He has published “Die Wölfin” in German in the Manesse library. Francisco Gavidia was married with twelve children.
