Francisco Joaquim Gomes Ribeiro

Francisco Joaquim Gomes Ribeiro (* around 1855 in Portugal ; † around 1900 in Rio de Janeiro , RJ, Brazil) was a Brazilian painter , designer and art educator of Portuguese descent.

Life

Ribeiro studied between 1882 and 1884 at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts AIBA with the German professor of landscape painting Johann Georg Grimm . He left the AIBA with him in order to continue studying plein air painting as a member of the free artist group Grimm in Niterói (RJ) until 1885 . In 1890 he traveled to Angra dos Reis (RJ) and created various works there.

In parallel to his other artistic work, he was professor of figural drawing at the Academy of Arts and Crafts (Liceu de Artes e Ofícios) in Rio de Janeiro between 1892 and 1896 and, from 1893, focused on the design of technical objects and facilities.
