Francisco José Millán Mon (born March 8, 1955 in Pontevedra ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular . He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004 .

Life

Mon studied law with a university degree in Santiago de Compostela and a diploma in international studies at the Madrid School of Diplomacy . In 1980 he started as a diplomat at the General Directorate for Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a consultant on international legal issues. From 1984 to 1987 he was the first secretary of the Spanish embassy in Bonn . He then went back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was a member of the Secretary General's Cabinet for Foreign Affairs and was Director of the Secretary General's Cabinet for the European Communities. From 1993 to 1996 he was the first secretary of the Spanish Embassy in Rabat . Back at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked as Director of the Secretary General's Cabinet for Foreign Policy and for the European Union and as Director General for European Affairs. From 2000 to 2003 he was advisor to the first Vice President of the Spanish Government.
