Francisco José Orlich Bolmarcich

Francisco José Orlich Bolmarcich (born March 10, 1907 in Alajuela , Costa Rica ; † October 29, 1969 in San José , Costa Rica) was President of Costa Rica from May 8, 1962 to May 8, 1966 .

Life

Punat on the island of Krk - Croatia , from which Francisco's grandfather emigrated to Costa Rica .

His parents were Georgina Bolmarcich Lemecich and José Rafael Orlich Zamora. With his brother he founded FJ Orlich & Hnos Ltda in 1928 . as a steel goods trade in San Ramón. In the meantime it was the coffee company with the highest sales in Costa Rica. On April 16, 1932, he married Marita del Carmen Camacho Quirós (* 1911 San Ramón) in Naranjo. Francisco José and Mauricio Orlich Camacho were born in this marriage.

He was a member of the Partido Liberación Nacional . In 1938 he was Mayor of San Ramón and from 1940 to 1944 and from 1946 to 1948 Member of Parliament for Alajuela. As mayor in 1948, he was a supporter of José Figueres Ferrer . From April to May 1948 he was Minister for Development, from 1948 to 1949 Minister for Public Works in the Junta and from 1953 to 1956 Minister for Public Works in the government cabinet of Figueres. In 1953 he was a member of parliament. In 1958 he was a presidential candidate.

Presidency

His deputies were Raúl Blanco Cervantes and Carlos Sáenz Herrera. During his tenure, Costa Rica became a member of the Mercado Común Centroamericano . The Hospital Nacional de Niños was opened.

Since 1961, the Alianza para el Progreso (ALPRO) has been propagated in Latin America as the industrialization of agriculture. In March, the Presidents of Central America met with John F. Kennedy in Costa Rica .
