Francisco Negrin
Francisco Miguel Negrín Maggioros (born June 5, 1963 in Mexico City ) is a Spanish opera director .
Life
Francisco Negrin is the son of the Spaniard Francisco Negrin Diaz and the Greek Catherine Maggioros, his father is a grandson of the Spanish Republican politician Juan Negrín . He moved with his family to Antibes , France , in 1972 , where he attended school. Negrin studied literature and cinematography in Aix-en-Provence and singing at the local conservatory.
He started as an extra and intern at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in 1982 and became assistant to the Swiss director François Rochaix . From 1984 to 1986 he assisted Gerard Mortier at the Brussels Opera House La Monnaie / De Munt and worked there under Patrice Chéreau , Karl-Ernst Herrmann and Maurice Béjart . From 1986 he worked as a freelance director in London and since 2003 he has lived in Barcelona .
By 2015 he has staged over 50 major operas, including a. at the Royal Opera House and at the De Vlaamse Opera . He has won several awards, the Australian Green Room Award , the Årets Reumert Award , and he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award .
