As a result of the US-Mexican War (1846-1848), the expenses for the diplomatic missions in South America were only reluctantly taken over by the Mexican government. After the " Guerra de Reforma " (December 17, 1857 to January 1, 1861), Francisco Serapio Mora was accredited at the Court of Prussia from 1861 , when the second French intervention in Mexico began in 1862 . In 1864 he received further accreditations from Tsar Alexander , King of Denmark and from Charles XV. (Sweden) . On November 7, 1864, Benito Juárez informed the Congress of Mexico that diplomatic relations with the European governments had been interrupted due to the second French intervention in Mexico. Francisco Serapio Mora then worked at the court of Emperor Maximilian as master of ceremonies ( Gran-Maestro de Ceremonias ). Francisco Serapio Mora was appointed ambassador to Austria-Hungary by Maximilian I on December 8, 1866 . After Maximilian was fusilized on June 19, 1867, relations were broken off by the Habsburgs .
