Leonardo López Portillo

Leonardo López Portillo (* 1820 in Guadalajara , Jalisco , Mexico ) was a Mexican ambassador .

Life

Leonardo López Portillo was a MP for the constituency of Guadalajara 1 in the state of Jalisco .

The first government of Porfirio Díaz decided to renew diplomatic relations with the South American republics. On December 11, 1877, a law was passed that a delegation should be accredited to the governments of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia and Perú. Leonardo López Portillo was accompanied on this mission by the embassy secretary Santiago Sierra and the official Anselmo de la Portilla.

Because of the Saltpeter War , the diplomatic mission from Perú, Bolivia and Chile was withdrawn on October 31, 1879 and the headquarters were relocated to Santiago de Chile until the beginning of the First World War .
