Francisco de Herrera the Younger
Francisco Herrera (el Mozo) (* 1622 in Seville ; † 25 August 1685 in Madrid ) was a Spanish painter and builder . He was the son of Francisco Herrera (el Viejo) , who is considered the head of the Sevillian school of painting from 1610 to 1640.
Herrera the Younger worked as a court painter to the Spanish royal court from 1672 . He mainly painted portraits and religious subjects and was close to contemporary Italian painters in his work.
The pilgrimage church Basílica del Pilar in Saragossa , which he began in 1681, is one of his buildings .
