Franciszek Żmurko (born July 18, 1859 in Lemberg , † October 9, 1910 in Warsaw ) was a Polish salon painter.

Life

He was the son of Wawrzyniec Żmurko, a professor of mathematics at Lviv University . He began his painting studies with the Lviv painter Franciszek Tepa. In 1876 he began to study with Jan Matejko at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts . In 1877 he studied at the Art Academy in Munich with Alexander von Wagner .

In 1880 he moved to Cracow. Thanks to a grant from Emperor Franz Joseph I , he spent a few months in Rome . In 1882 he came to Warsaw , where he lived until the end of his life.

In oil and pastel he mainly painted women's heads and erotic half-nudes, as well as harem scenes and scenes from mythology. His painting was hardly influenced by the popular styles of Art Nouveau and Impressionism .
