Franck Azzopardi (born December 5, 1970 in Châtellerault ) is a former French football player and later coach .

Player career

Azzopardi was accepted into the youth division of the Chamois Niort football club in 1983 . Known for his combative style of play, the footballer made the leap into the club's second division team during the 1989/90 season . From then on he ran regularly for a team with which he had to accept relegation to the third division in 1991 ; However, this was followed by direct resurgence a year later. The professional, who is considered team-oriented, was able to consolidate his regular place in the second highest French division, where he was on the field in all 38 games during the 1996/97 season. Over the years he remained loyal to Niort and achieved with the club again and again to remain in the second division until he could no longer thwart relegation in 2005. In view of this, he decided in the same year at the age of 34 after 409 second division games for the club to end his career without ever having appeared in the first division ; however, he secured the title of the club's record player.

Coaching career

Immediately after the end of his career, the ex-professional took on the responsibility of coaching the under 16s at Chamois Niort. In the summer of 2009 he was promoted to assistant coach of the first team and as such experienced promotion from fourth to second division. This was followed in June 2013 by a change of position within the association, as a result of which Azzopardi became head of Niort's youth department.
