Franco Maresco (born May 5, 1958 in Palermo ) is an Italian film director , screenwriter , film producer and film editor .

Life

Franco Maresco is famous in Italy for his critical and sarcastic film and television productions. The Dadaist cult series Cinico TV, which he realized together with his partner Daniele Ciprì , made him known nationwide in Italy in the early 1990s. The first feature film by Ciprì and Maresco, The Uncle from Brooklyn , was released in 1995. This was followed by other productions that cemented the duo's cult status. The 1998 film Totò, Who Lived Twice, was the last Italian film to be banned by Italian censors.

After his separation from Daniele Ciprì, Maresco's solo debut was released in 2014: Belluscone - Why Italians Love Berlusconi was awarded the special jury prize at the 71st Venice Film Festival . The film illuminates the relationship between the state and the mafia in Italy.
