Frank Claaßen (born November 8, 1967 in Barßel ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . His brother Christian was also a professional soccer player.
Player career
Claaßen began his career at VfL Oldenburg and came to the second division VfB Oldenburg via SV Wilhelmshaven , with whom he played in the Regionalliga Nord from 1994 to 1996 . After half a year and nine games in the 2nd Bundesliga , he went back to Wilhelmshaven and played again in the Regionalliga. For the 1997/98 season he moved to league rivals VfL Osnabrück and returned to SV Wilhelmshaven for the third time after two and a half years there. After the club did not receive a license for the regional league for the 2001/02 season, he moved again to VfB Oldenburg, in the Oberliga Niedersachsen / Bremen , where he let his career end.
Coaching career
Frank Claaßen gained his first experience as a coach at SV Meppen, where he was assistant coach. In September 2005 he became head coach at the upper division VfL Oldenburg , which he led to the championship in the upper division Lower Saxony-West in 2007/08. At the end of the 2008/09 season he ended his activity.
For the 2009/10 season he took over the coaching position at SV Meppen (also Oberliga Niedersachsen-West ), but was released on December 16, 2009.
From 2012 to 2015, Claaßen trained Kickers Wahnbek, who was canceled in 2015 and which he led from the district league to the state league
From December 2018 to April 2020 he was sporting director at SSV Jeddeloh II , and immediately afterwards he took over the corresponding position at VfB Oldenburg.
