Frank Cordell

Frank Cordell (born June 1, 1918 in Kingston upon Thames , Surrey , † July 6, 1980 in Hastings , East Sussex ) was a British composer and conductor . He created some musical works for British cinema in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. These include compositions for films such as Der Luxus Käpt'n , We are waiting in Ashiya , mosquito bombers are attacking , Khartoum - Uprising on the Nile or Cromwell - War against the King .

life and career

Frank Cordell was born in Kingston upon Thames in 1918. At the age of 17 Cordell won a London competition as a promising jazz pianist. During his time in the Royal Air Force from 1940 to 1946 he acquired his skills as an arranger and conductor, during which time he worked as the musical director of Air Force radio. Since 1952 Cordell also wrote film music. He composed the music for such films as The Luxury Captain , Rebel , We wait in Ashiya , Khartoum - revolt on the Nile , Mosquito bomber attack , My friend, the otter , Hellboats - greetings from hell or the thriller vigilantism . In 1971 he was honored with an Oscar nomination by director Ken Hughes for his composition on the period film Cromwell - War the King .

In 1947 Cordell married the artist Magda Lustigova (later Magda Cordell McHale). Frank Cordell died on July 6, 1980 at the age of 62 in Hastings, East Sussex.
